New client for ASTRA

As I mentioned before I started a company. It’s been going pretty slowly, had some ups, had some downs, slowdowns that is, and it seems things are back on track. I am still working to complete an in-house software product but the development cycle was halted so that I could upgrade my knowledge base to LINQ and ADO.Net Entity Framework. During this knowledge gathering period I’ve had a lot of personal life events taking place, getting near a marriage, looking for a house, and getting myself into a regular schedule. Development at work has been going well, slower than I thought, but going well none the less.

Today I sold my companies services to a midsized printing company. The initial project has been slated as a six month task with many more projects waiting in the wings. I’m looking forward to starting on this project, but of course have to do some initial project requirements gathering. From there I’ll talk about the business processes that are currently un-documented, and get an idea of the pain points in the data entry roles. So far the client has been nothing but cheerful and pleasant to work with, and I’m looking forward to a very successful delivery of an updated website ready to deliver the results they’re looking for.

In other news I recently took part in a Frisbee golf game that netted me the first hole in one of my life. I think the hole was more than 280 feet and I was able to toss the Frisbee in such a way that it swopped down, hit a tree, and fell directly into the hole. It was fantastic, truly a one in a million accomplishment that I’m sure I’ll never repeat. I can’t wait till I witness another one of my comrades performing the same maneuver.

Welcome home Dragunov.

Yesterday was pretty darn eventful. I woke up pretty early considering it was a Saturday, and was up at 8:30. After a quick shower I found myself hanging around the PC playing with Visual Studio 2008, and caught my eye of my free movie tickets. I decided that it was a good time to check out the movies playing, and wow, nothing good playing at all. That’s when my eye caught “Juno”, and I’ve been wanting to see that movie for a long time. Shoot, I was glad it was still playing. I called a friend of mine and suggested that we both go see the movie since my girlfriend was off at work. Since the movie was still a few hours off we decided to hang out for a little while.

Ended up sitting in his room chatting about a screen play that he’s writing, and I gave some feedback regarding one of the characters that’s loosely based on me. Then for some reason we decided to see who could extend the tape measure the longest before the tape snapped and dropped to the floor. My buddy got 106” and I unfortunately only managed to get it out 104” before it snapped falling to the floor.

My buddy showed me a new trick he had with his pistol with how he can flip a bullet from the chamber into the air catching it. That’s when I remembered overhearing that the Bill Goodman’s gun and knife show was that day and today from 9 to 5. My girlfriend just happened to call at that exact same moment, and when I mentioned it to her both my buddy and her said we were definnitly going. An hour later we were at the show ogling the guns, ammo, and the knives. Honestly the place was not exactly what I thought it would be. A little small, not many interesting knives (they need swords), and the guns were pretty good for the offerings. I’ve been wanting an AK-47, or an AK-74 for the longest time. They really didn’t have much other than a few SKS, shot guns, and some MR rifles.

That’s when I saw it. Sitting there at the booth farthest towards the back of the show, the gun of my dreams. The rifle was sitting there with bright wood hand grips, long range rifle barrel, and very much resembling an AK rifle. There sat the FPK Dragunov Romanian sniper rifle. I tried to make myself walk away, actually did a few times, circled the place, but ended up coming back half an hour before the show ended. Long story short I picked up the rifle as an extremely reasonable price, and today it sits in my room waiting to be taken out to a friend’s farm. I am now the happy owner of my very own sniper rifle, and I plan to take full advantage of it’s ability to pick off targets long range. You can see a picture of it from the link below.

Brighter note.

I guess I should write about a brighter note. It was a little drowned out after I came back to find my bird so sick, but over Christmas I acquired two new weapons. I came into possession of a brand new M9 9mm handgun, and a new 12 gauge to replace my broken one. I’m a big fan of shooting clay pigeons, and have wanted to join a target range but without a handgun this was a bit difficult. So over the week I bought the 9mm hand gun, and received the 12 gauge from my Dad to replace the one that broke two years ago.

I took the 9mm to the gun range earlier in the day before having to run to the vet’s office. I shot off about 300 rounds and blew away about five body targets. For those of you who don’t know the M9 is the new standard military issue handgun. Unfortunately the shooting did not go as well as I’d have liked. The gun shot the spent shells up into the air, which hit the ceiling two feet above, and would fall onto me after each round. These shells tended to be a bit hot, and after the third or fourth shell landing on my arms and burning me I put my coat back on. I even wound up with a shell falling into my safety goggles and burning my cheek. This shell actually fell onto my eye but thankfully I was at the right angle for it to keep rolling so it didn’t burn my eye.

Later in the day after stopping at Taco bell and being dropped off by my friend a shell rolled out onto the grass while both my friend and I were admiring the Rotorolla (Corolla with a turbo charged rotary engine.) I had a suspicion one had fallen down my back (what with the burning) but it got stuck into my pants later to roll out. While I was driving later that evening the shell rolled onto my floor board from my coat pocket to the truck floor two hours later. I started chuckling over that one.
